Atlanta Honda CR-V Dealer

Making its debut in the North American market in 1997, the Honda CR-V has become a very popular compact crossover over the years. What’s surprising about it is that it uses a Honda Civic platform combined with an SUV body style. This gives the vehicle a car-like feel when you drive it, which sets it apart from the more rugged and jarring competitors. If you’ve ever wondered what CR-V stands for, it’s an acronym for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle.” As your local Atlanta Honda CR-V dealer, we sell a lot of these beauties.

The CR-V is fast becoming an extremely popular choice among SUV buyers as it has the classic Honda reliability that everyone loves with a body style that is versatile. SUVs, in general, are taking over the market for their versatility in design that allows them to fit the family in a vehicle that sits high like a truck but still handles like a car. Plus, while Honda is meeting customer wants with this fantastic model, they are also keeping up with the expanding trend of fuel-efficient hybrid models with the CR-V Hybrid. Honda is constantly innovating and changing to keep up with the current trends and give customers a vehicle they can count on.

The CR-V: A Generational Breakdown

The first generation of Honda CR-V vehicles was produced from 1997 until 2000. Many of these models were powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that generated 126 hp and 133 lb-ft of torque. In 1999, the remaining model got a peppier engine that pushed out 147 hp and 133 lb-ft of torque. To usher in the new millennia, a Special Edition version was released in the United States with body-colored exterior accents, a chrome grille, leather upholstery, rear privacy glass, a navigation system, and a CD/cassette sound system.

By 2001, the second generation of Honda CR-V models began to roll out onto dealership lots. The engine was tweaked yet again, resulting in an output of 156 hp and 160 lb-ft of torque. However, most of the changes made during this time were minor. It wasn’t until 2005 that the CR-V underwent a facelift. Getting larger 16-inch wheels, the petite SUV got revisions on the grille, headlights, taillights, and bumpers. Fog lamps were also installed.

The third generation of Honda CR-V models came out in 2006. The most prominent change came in the form of the rear entry point. What used to be a fifth door on the back was transformed into a liftgate. Also, a new engine was installed under the hood. This 2.4L 4-cylinder motor produced 166 hp and 161 lb-ft of torque. The next refresh occurred in 2010. On these models, you will notice a restyled grille along with new bumpers, headlights, taillights, and wheels. This was also the moment when Bluetooth phone connectivity and USB ports were added.

Next is the fourth generation, which debuted in 2011. Using a 2.4L Inline-4 engine, the initial models produced 180 hp and 161 lb-ft of torque. In 2015, a continuously variable transmission (CVT) was added into the mix. This improved the fuel economy for this Honda SUV by about 4 mpg.

Finally, the last and current generation is the fifth. Arriving on dealership lots in 2017, there have been a couple of powertrains involved in the latest lineup. First is the base 2.4L I-4 engine that generates 184 hp. Next is the turbocharged 1.5L I-4 that produces 190 hp. The Honda Sensing safety suite, which includes adaptive cruise control forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist, was also added to this new generation. Going through a facelift in 2019, a Honda CR-V hybrid model was added to the lineup. Throughout the years, many tech changes have occurred for the Honda CR-V models. However, the compact crossover has managed to stay affordable.

What Makes the CR-V a Best-Seller?

Whether you want to buy a new or used Honda CR-V, you can expect great things from this small package. Loaded with the latest technology and safety equipment, you can enjoy a fantastic fuel economy as well as a comfortable and entertaining ride. This five-seater is a fan favorite, and we highly recommend it for small families.

Most Honda CR-V models get very good gas mileage. If you look at the current 2021 CR-V, you'll get a gas mileage of up to 28 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway with the front-wheel drive models, and slightly less gas mileage with the all-wheel drive models.1 However, if you want the best fuel-economy that you can get with the CR-V, adding the hybrid powertrain is the way to go. This factor alone makes the CR-V very popular among families who keep a tight budget.

Not only is it good on gas, but it is also affordable. Aside from having an inexpensive price tag, Honda vehicles are well known for being cheap and easy to maintain. As long as you keep the routine maintenance up-to-date, you shouldn’t have any issues with your CR-V. You’ll save money at the pump and money at the mechanic. It’s a vehicle that you can trust to transport your loved ones anywhere they need to go.

The 2021 Honda CR-V

In the middle of its fifth generation, the 2021 Honda CR-V has returned relatively unchanged from the previous year. This five-seater offers 39.2 cubic feet of space behind the second row. If you fold the rear seats down, you can expand this area up to 75.8 cubic feet. However, you do lose a few inches of cargo space if you have the hybrid version.

The Honda Sensing package that we mentioned earlier is also standard. Available in four trim levels, each one is powered by a turbocharged 1.5L 4-cylinder motor. Equipped with a continuously variable transmission and FWD (AWD is optional), it generates 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque.

The LX base model comes with automatic climate control and a simple infotainment system. Displayed on a 5-inch monitor that doubles as a video feed for the rearview camera, this interface works with Bluetooth phone/audio connectivity. You can make and receive calls and even send text messages hands-free. A 4-speaker stereo is also included.

Next, the EX is the second trim. It gets a lot of upgrades, including compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can stream music and use your favorite apps through the infotainment interface, which also includes a larger 7-inch touchscreen. A sunroof has been installed as well as push-button start technology. Keyless entry is included, and the driver’s seat is power-adjustable. Heated seats have been added to the front of the cabin, and blindspot monitoring will alert you if another vehicle enters your blind spot.

The upper-mid-level EX-L trim brings a bit more luxury to the equation. A power liftgate makes it easy to load the back with cargo. Meanwhile, the interior is draped in leather upholstery, and the sound system gets an extra 4 speakers for a total of 8.

Finally, the top-of-the-line Touring trim is the cherry on top of the ice-cream sundae! LED headlights have been installed for enhanced visibility. The steering wheel is heated for comfort, and the stereo gets an extra speaker for a total of 9. This model also comes with an integrated navigation system to help you find your way in a new city.

The 2022 CR-V

The 2022 CR-V continues with the features of the fifth generation of CR-V. Why change a good thing? The 2022 CR-V remains a popular favorite with the editors of many reviews, thanks to its wide range of safety features and handy features that make your life easier while still providing a fun ride. No other manufacturer can compete with the standard Honda Sensing safety suite, especially in this mass-market segment. Besides the Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Road Departure Mitigation System, the CR-V also comes with standard Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow. While regular cruise control is very handy for keeping a steady speed, being able to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, even as the speed of the traffic flow changes, is a commuting and road trip game changer.

The best vehicles have thoughtful details that you wouldn’t expect, but you quickly realize you can’t live without. The rear door of the CR-V opens nearly a full 90 degrees, which is much more useful for loading things, and you can load plenty, as, with the rear seats folded, the CR-V has up to 75.8 cubic feet of cargo volume. On top of that, you can fold those rear seats easily from the cargo area with convenient levers. USB charging ports for your backseat passengers and wireless charging are just two more ways the CR-V can make your life easier.

The turbocharged 1.5L I-4 that Honda put into this fifth generation of CR-V produces 190 horsepower, and the CVT it’s paired with will give you a smooth driving experience. Whether you have a longer highway commute or do shorter city drives, you’ll be comfortable thanks to the sound-deadening materials around the engine and cabin and active noise cancellation in the sound system.

Tips for Maintaining Your CR-V

When it comes to keeping your CR-V running smoothly, Honda has maintenance scheduled approximately every 7,500 miles. But what happens, exactly, at which 7,500 can vary. The 7,500 / 22,500 / 37,500 / 52,500 / 67,500 / 82,500 schedule includes oil and oil filter changes, checking and topping up all other fluids - including checking the brakes while looking at brake fluid - and tire pressure and tread checks, along with tire rotations. Different work is done on the 15,000 / 45,000 / 75,000 / 105,000-mile schedule, including replacing the oil gasket and drain plug, windshield wipers, A/C filter, and any necessary spark plugs. A thorough inspection of the undercarriage, shocks and struts, parking brake, and fuel and temperature control systems, as well as rotating and balancing the wheels, servicing the transmission, and re-torquing the driveshaft also happens.

While many of us grew up hearing oil changes are an absolute necessity every 3,000 miles, the average modern Honda goes anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes, and some as many as 15,000 miles, like your new CR-V may be capable of. Of course, it is imperative that you listen to your car. If you notice any oil leakage, your oil pressure light comes on, or, even before that, your engine is suddenly running louder, and maybe you notice it shaking when idling at a red light, then you’ll definitely want to come in and have your oil levels checked.

There is also some regularly scheduled maintenance every 30,000 miles, including servicing the battery and the transmission, inspecting the fuel systems, transfer case oil, and air elements, and lubricating the propeller shaft and wheel bearings. But, don’t worry, you do not need to remember all - or any - of this yourself. All CR-Vs from 2007 on come with the Honda Maintenance Minder System. As every 7,500th (or 30,000th) mile gets close to rolling around, your Maintenance Minder screen will display codes indicating which regularly scheduled maintenance tasks are coming due. It will even tell you when your oil life is dwindling, in case you need an oil change sooner than scheduled.

Of course, as long as you come to see us at Gwinnett Place Honda, we’ll make sure your CR-V gets everything it needs right on schedule. Located in Duluth, we are an easy drive up 85 from Atlanta and convenient to Alpharetta and Lawrenceville. Give us a call or easily schedule an auto service appointment at our service center online.

Certified Pre-Owned CR-Vs

There are Certified Pre-Owned cars, and then there are HondaTrue Certified Pre-Owned cars. Each one comes with a seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. For non-powertrain items, if you purchase your HondaTrue CR-V within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period, that warranty will be extended to four years/48,000 miles or five years/86,000 miles if you choose a HondaTrue Certified+ 2019 or newer CR-V. All HondaTrue vehicles come with up to two complimentary oil changes in your first year of ownership, a 90-day trial of SiriusXM, and the option to purchase the extra protection of Honda Care to cover any potential issues with your engine, transmission, suspension, and temperature control and fuel systems.

You can search for Certified Pre-Owned CR-Vs here on our site, and you won’t just be able to search the inventory on our extensive lot; you’ll be able to search the CPOs on all dealership lots. You can even set up email alerts to be notified when your perfect new-to-you CR-V is available in the system. As if there aren’t enough benefits to buying a Certified Pre-Owned CR-V, you can download a vehicle inspection report for each Honda CPO. By viewing the report before you test drive, you’ll know exactly what to expect. When you buy a Certified Pre-Owned Honda, you’re buying Honda quality that lasts for years.
