The Honda Ridgeline and the Toyota Tacoma are both serious contenders in the tough new compact pickup truck segment--or, as we like to call it, the Weekender Truck segment.

These small-to-midsize trucks aren't the hefty powerhouses of other lineups--their towing and payload capacities don't begin to scratch the ratings of full-size light-duty or heavy-duty trucks. But, they don't have to.

Trucks like these aren't meant for mega-towing or hauling big blocks of concrete. They're better suited for hauling four-wheelers, camping supplies, hunting gear, and other hobby equipment.

Compare Features

The 2019 Tacoma does offer a cool GoPro mount in the cabin--not the GoPro itself, but a mount for it. Other than that, features are generally unremarkable. The Tacoma doesn't even offer Apple CarPlay, which is becoming a staple feature among vehicles geared toward the adventurous. You can, however, get Qi wireless charging capabilities.

The 2019 Ridgeline, on the other hand, is jam-packed with great features, including a dual-action tailgate (open down or out to the side), an in-bed stereo system, and a built-in, waterproof, lockable compartment in the bed. Tailgating has reached new heights in this smart new weekender.

 

Compare Engine Options and Performance

The 2019 Honda Ridgeline offers a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine, good for 262 pound-feet of torque and 280 horsepower. Compares that to the 2019 Tacoma, which only offers a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, making just 180 pound-feet of torque and 159 horsepower. There is an available Tacoma V6, but you'll pay a lot more for it.
