2014 Honda Odyssey Earns Top Safety Pick + Designation From IIHS

We're big minivan fans here at Gwinnett Place Honda, and if there's one we think stands out above all the others, it's the 2014 Odyssey. Recently on our blog, we gave you an overview of this new family auto and all it has to offer, but now, we've got some even better news. The Odyssey has earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS.

The Top Safety Pick + designation is the highest offered by the Institute, and a best for the minivan segment as a whole. It's not easy to achieve, either. In order to score so highly, a vehicle must score "good" ratings in 4 out of 5 evaluations and earn nothing less than "acceptable" in the new overlap test.

So what makes the new Odyssey so different than its predecessor? The high strength steel the vehicle used in its door frames, front wheel wells, and floor pans, for one. The extended side curtain airbags, offering additional head protection, were a plus as well.

According to IIHS President Adrian Lund, this safety rating will position the Odyssey as a top choice for families. "Consumers look for models with the highest safety ratings," he explained. "Honda is ahead of many of its competitors in building state-of-the-art crashworthiness into its vehicles."1

High praise indeed, but not surprising, considering that the Odyssey is far and away from the automaker's only Top Safety Pick + holder. The popular Accord and Civic have also earned the IIHS highest safety award.
